Berriasian, Sa (1,2), Iq (2,3), Qa1, Bn1, Kw1

Province:
Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait

Type Locality and Naming

Columns: Saudi Arabia Outcrop, Saudi Arabia Subsurface, Rutba Uplift (W Iraq), Central Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain; Lowermost formation in Thamama Gr in Kuwait

Lithology and Thickness

Lower part: Alternating layers of varying hardness and light grayish tan, more or less rubbly, compact, fine-grained limestone with occasional thin layers of fragmental limestone, oolite, and, recrystallized coquina; partings with abundant oyster and other fossil fragments. Locally there is limited dolomitization.

Upper part: Fragmental limestone interbedded with compact limestone. Several breccia layers occur near, and at, the base. Scattered quartz sand grains are also present near the base. Some of the brecciation is taken to suggest beds of anhydrite since removed by solution may once have been present.

Lithology Pattern:
Limestone
